Officials and celebrities headed to the Sun Valley Conference this week, giving us a taste of their style.
The conference, known as the ‘billionaire summer camp,’ usually has a dress code.
Along with the requisite vests, attendees wore red accents, gold accessories, and colored glasses.
Every July, technology, media, and finance executives flock to the resort town of Sun Valley, Idaho, for Allen & Co. Sun Valley Forum – a “summer camp for billionaires.”
Attendees often follow a simple dress code of t-shirts, vests and sportswear for meetings between golfing, schmoozing and dealmaking.
However, this year, the sartorial choices were bolder than usual.
Among the usual calm grays and blues, a few people who were there were sporting red ones. While health tracking devices such as Apple Watches and Oura are standard fare for the tech crowd, this year, some have opted for flashy accessories: gold chain bracelets, big earrings and sunglasses. bright
Here’s what some of the business world wore to the Sun Valley conference this week.
The first rule of billionaire style – nothing beats a simple t-shirt
While tech t-shirts are nothing new, they have evolved.
T-shirts, like the one worn by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, are now heavier, than the $20 Hanes worn by coders in their college days.
“Now it’s thick enough, durable, and quality enough that it’s part of the outdoors,” Victoria Hitchcock, a fashion and lifestyle designer in the San Francisco Bay Area, told Business Insider.
Red was everywhere this year, from red headwear to toes…
Stacey Bendet Eisner, CEO of fashion brand Alice + Olivia, always has some of the most eye-catching outfits in Sun Valley.
“Do you think Mark Zuckerberg does his makeup on his way to Sun Valley at 4:30 in the morning, too?” he reflected in a video posted on Instagram.
… to dark areas of color …
Politician Van Jones arrived in a red sweater – a bright light among the muted tones usual for the event. The inspiration comes straight from the runway, Hitchcock said, pointing to recent collections from Marni and Valentino.
…to sell the convention business
When it comes to the Sun Valley Conference, there’s no shame in selling sports names. Many attendees could be seen in red Allen & Co. zip-ups. or they took them in case of cold.
“You can’t go wrong,” Hitchcock said of choosing purchased equipment. “These are the people who wore their company logos forever and ever.”
Guests were not afraid of shiny accessories, with gold chain bracelets
Fashion icon Diane Von Furstenberg was one of the few people in attendance wearing gold chain jewelry – a trend that Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has also recently embraced.
“You see it everywhere — gold-plated, blue,” Hitchcock said.
Others have chosen colored glasses
Brian Grazer, co-founder of Imagine Entertainment, and press executive Barry Diller were seen sporting the yellow lenses, while CBS anchor Gayle King poked fun at her bright green frames.
Meanwhile, wearable health monitoring devices were not as popular as they were years ago
While Shari Redstone, Bob Iger, and Tim Cook were, of course, seen wearing Apple Watches, and there were a few Whoops to be seen, many attendees wore cloths. old wristbands and throw away computerized or tracking devices.
“They work really well, and everyone I work with owns them,” Hitchcock said of Apple Watches. But that doesn’t stop them from buying some of the pieces that are valuable and have an emotional connection.
Oprah Winfrey ditched the color, opting for an all-white outfit
Fashion rules don’t discriminate. Regulars and media moguls alike have just three months to wear white. So, Sun Valley is a great time for attendees to wear their best color-free looks — like this Phoebe Philo on Oprah.
With mixed threads, Lauren Sanchez eschews the usual tech trend
Jeff Bezos’ girlfriend, Lauren Sanchez, wore a closed miniskirt for the meeting, although she paired it with sneakers for a more casual look.
And Bezos himself kept it classic Sun Valley in a t-shirt and vest. It turns out that, despite the latest look from Bezos, you can get the tech guy out of the basement – but you can’t get the basement out of the tech bro.
